Dear Friends,
When I stepped onto Hurricane Island 60 years ago, I found the perfect place to create a sea school. A vibrant community evolved to carry out our mission. Over the years, that community changed so many lives, including our own. Twelve years ago, with the founding of the Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership, those voices of the past encouraged us on.
Today, a Hurricane Island community continues to change lives.
We’ve expanded our circle to include teachers and scientists as well as outdoor educators. Their contagious passion for the program and for the Island inspire our students to discover their personal abilities and to take a part in the survival of our natural world. With the time I have left on this planet, I want to see that the continuing use of Hurricane Island is secure for future generations.
