Research on Hurricane Island
At Hurricane Island, we promote, facilitate, and conduct place-based science that inspires community action. Our scientists, educators, and community members collaborate through our own research and that of our participants to understand ecological change in the Gulf of Maine.
Their discoveries help to answer high priority questions for local communities, as well as:
Attract scientists, graduate students, and undergraduates to conduct research and utilize our facilities
Encourage researchers to make their work relevant to students and to our community of adult learners and educators
Establish research projects and curricula for middle and high school teachers that support state and national science education standards
Engage students in meaningful research, inspiring leadership in scientific discovery and conservation
Cultivate partnerships with fisheries, businesses, schools, and other laboratories to leverage and grow our initiatives for the benefit of all constituents
